Climate Smart Healthcare Sustainability

Climate Smart Healthcare Sustainability is a one-day educational event focused on integrating environmental sustainability into healthcare practice and policy. We will be addressing the intersection of climate change and infectious disease and highlighting community-based sustainability initiatives. There will be workshops and breakout sessions exploring Climate Smart Healthcare systems and/or climate at the bedside for direct patient care strategies.

Saturday, November 15, 2025, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, TBA, Grand Rapids, MI

1. Identify the impacts of climate change on public health, including infectious disease trends, air quality, and vulnerable populations.
2. Identify and apply climate-smart strategies at both the system and bedside level to reduce healthcare’s environmental footprint while improving patient outcomes.
3. Demonstrate how to engage in interdisciplinary and community-based approaches to promote sustainability and address environmental determinants of health in clinical practice.

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine and Michigan Clinicians for Climate Action. Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
