MiCCA’s 3rd Annual Climate & Health Event: Food as Medicine for People and the Planet

This event will examine the interrelationships between climate change, agriculture, food systems, and human health. Participants will explore the "Food as Medicine" framework, which integrates access to nutritious, high-quality food into healthcare as a strategy for preventing, managing, and treating chronic disease. The program will also examine how food production and distribution systems influence environmental sustainability, health equity, and access to nutritious foods, highlighting the impact these systems have on population health and underserved communities.

Saturday, October 24, 2026, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Michigan State University Union, East Lansing, MI

1. Describe the relationship between climate change, food systems, nutrition, and human health, including the evidence supporting Food as Medicine interventions.
2. Apply evidence-based strategies to incorporate Food as Medicine principles, nutrition counseling, and food insecurity screening into patient care when appropriate.
3. Identify opportunities to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and community organizations to improve equitable access to nutritious foods and support better patient and population health outcomes.

In support of improving patient care, WMed's Office of Continuing Education (CE) is jointly accredited with Commendation by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide interprofessional continuing education for the healthcare team.
