WMed Human Trafficking Conference 2024

Human trafficking – you might know what this is, but do you know what to do if you encounter this in the clinical setting? This 4 hour event will include a lecture series about human trafficking’s intersection with health care as well as a chance to apply the knowledge participants gain in cases in WMed’s simulation center. Attendees will learn how to recognize trafficking, safely intervene, and use resources to aid patients being trafficked. The simulation includes three cases, with two involving patients being trafficked so participants must learn to identify trafficking correctly.

1. Describe the legal definitions of sex and labor trafficking
2. List the red flags to look for in a medical setting
3. Describe the intervention techniques you can use in the setting of trafficking
4. Apply knowledge of human trafficking in health care to simulation cases
5. Summarize what resources are available in Kalamazoo if trafficking is recognized.
