Overview

This training covers the key principles of Human System Dynamics (HSD)—an approach that applies principles of complexity science and chaos theory to cope with volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) situations. During these 4 sessions, participants will develop skills to address the complex issues faced in their day-to-day work and interactions at WMed.  Participants will be expected to commit to attend 4 sessions (2 hours each) during the work day as well as complete short exercises between sessions.

Objectives
  1. Describe what Human System Dynamics is as a whole
  2. Ask good questions and remain in a state of inquiry while encountering difficult problems
  3. Explain concept of Container Difference Exchange
  4. Recognize situations where Container Difference Exchange would be an effective tool to use
  5. Recognize distinguishing characteristics between different types of truths
  6. Apply knowledge of different types of truths in the context of inquiry
  7. Provide appropriate role modeling
  8. Perform supervisory responsibilities commesurate with one's roles, abilities, and qualifications
  9. Set learning and improvement goals
  10. Identify and perform learning activities that address one's gaps in knowledge, skills, and/or attitudes
  11. Provide leadership skils that enhance team functioning, the learning environment, and/or the health care delivery system
  12. Recognize that ambiguity is part of clinical health care and respond by utilizing appropriate resources in dealing with uncertainty
