WMed Community Clinical Preceptors Faculty Development Day

The Second Annual Community Preceptor Faculty Development Day brings together our valued community preceptors for a day focused on “Beyond Competence: The Community Preceptor’s Role in Physician Formation.” The event will explore the important role community preceptors play in shaping the knowledge, skills, values, and professional identity of future physicians.

1. Perform a focused direct observation of a single clinical skill and construct corrective feedback based on specific observed behavior rather than global impression.
2. Determine and document an appropriate supervision level for a given learner and task using stated entrustment criteria.
3. Recognize early behavioral signals of a struggling learner and open a concern conversation using the WMed reporting pathway.
4. Apply time-efficient precepting microskills and select teaching methods matched to the learner’s level within a normal clinic day.
5. Describe how a preceptor’s own habits, team behavior, and the hidden curriculum shape a student’s professional identity formation.
6. Commit to one specific change in their own teaching practice, recorded on the evaluation form.

In support of improving patient care, WMed's Office of Continuing Education (CE) is jointly accredited with Commendation by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide interprofessional continuing education for the healthcare team.
