2023 Great Lakes Homeland Security Training and Expo

Since its start in 1999, when just 75 individuals attended, the Great Lakes Homeland Security Training Conference has continued in its purpose to enhance the capabilities of those who protect our homeland. With dynamic speakers such as Chief David Brown, Oliver North, Colin Powell, Martin Dempsey, Rudy Guiliani, Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, Marcus Luttrell, and many more, the conference has continued to grow each year, attracting more than 1,400 attendees and 55 vendors in 2018. This year will center on two decades of bringing homeland security professionals together to share their knowledge and experience with the common goal of strengthening our nation’s capacity to respond to threats.

Wednesday, May 10, 2023, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Devos Center, Grand Rapids, MI

1. The learner will be able to understand the MDHHS Stay Well Program and how it can benefit first responders in a crisis.
2. The learner will be able to understand what the Michigan Physician Order for Scope of Treatment (MI POST) forms are and how it intersects with EMS, law enforcement and public health.
3. The learner will be able to understand the special considerations of service animals and their handlers in an emergency.
4. The learner will explain China's role in supplying ingredients for US pharmaceuticals and how potential conflict could disrupt the supply chain and pharmaceutical manufacture in the US.
5. The learner will be able to understand the CDC/ASDR Social Vulnerability index to utilize this tool during an emergency.
6. The learner will be able to understand how guide volunteers during an exercise to appropriately convey injury or illness.

Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
